BRIT For Lashes

After just missing out on the Mercury prize, Bat For Lashes gets another chance for a fancy doorstop this month as she’s been nominated for two Brit Awards. Wolf-loving Natasha Khan will face competition from the likes of Kate Nash and PJ Harvey in the Best British Female category, and lines up against popsters Mika and Leona Lewis for the – eek – Radio 1 listener-voted British Breakthrough Act prize. Despite expectations to the contrary Belle & Sebastian blagged their way to the gong and relative outsiders The Fratellis also won, although they’re admittedly shit. You can shout your BRIT frustrations at the TV when it’s broadcast live on Wednesday 20th. Good luck Natasha.

Stood outside the windmill for our cover shoot early last year Bat For Lashes was trying to blag our editor’s gloves. “If you win the Mercury Prize you can have them,” he said. Well, now it looks like he might have to give them over. She more than deserves her nomination for her sexy as hell, stunning debut LP, Fur & Gold. In fact she’s surely worth a flutter, up against the likes of The View, Patrick Wolf, New Young Pony Club. William Hill have got her down at 12/1 and we reckon that’s good odds.
